HAVE YOU BEEN TO PETUNIA'S?

Stop what you're doing and check out their adorable site. Petunia's is a gluten free and vegan bakery in Portland, Oregon that is on my list of top ten amazing places in Portland.

They have giant cakes that are not only beautiful, but delicious. They also have savory dishes such as chili with cornbread and macaroni and cheese that will make you cry tears of joy. That's right. CHEESE! Melty, gooey cheese. All vegan.

Check out the adorable inside of the bakery. Could they be any cuter?

What I love about this place is that I can send people there knowing they'll have a wonderful and safe experience.

I know how excited they'll be to realize they can still have these delectable desserts. Tell your gluten free/vegan friends about this place. Not only are they a great local company, but the owner is unbelievably nice and the food is out of this world.

Full Circle Zumba Experience

It almost made me cry. Instead, I told everyone I knew about it.

Years ago, I asked a friend to join me at a group exercise class. I desperately wanted to try a class but was afraid to go alone. She picked a class called Zumba and little did I know, it was the best decision I could have ever made.

Stay with me for the full circle experience.

The class blew my mind. It was the kind of music you had to move to, and the dance moves were the just my style. I was immediately hooked. I began going to going to all the classes I could and at one point was going twice a day.

I was a super fan and fell in love with one particular instructor and her fantastic choreography. She was a talented dancer and brought a special flavor to her classes. I followed her to several different studios and gyms, and was eventually so inspired, I became a certified instructor.

This woman literally changed my life with one Zumba class. In addition to my certification, I went back to school for a degree in fitness technology.

Who is this woman (who btw, had no idea about this until two days ago) who changed my life? Rosella Hunter. She still teaches Zumba but she also teaches a bunch of other incredible classes that rock the female body. Again, mind blown. She's so cool.

Full circle on two levels.

Stay with me, here it comes. I subbed a bunch of classes this week at a different recreation center during Spring Break and one of my regulars came one of the classes. That's right! She came to a different location to take my morning class and then went to her regular evening class. Twice a day! With me! As an instructor, this was a huge moment. She was telling the ladies at the front desk how much she enjoyed my class and it meant so much to me.

A few years after leading my own dance parties, one of my awesome participants (and lovely friend) became certified. Seriously Rosie, you have no idea what you started. The best part about Libbi getting certified is when we can work together to learn new dances and how we send each other cool internet finds. The dance party continues.

It all started with Rosie.

Who's next?

I started my day with a great surprise!

I went to my group exercise class today expecting no one to show up.

You see, after kicking major butt last week and making them work super hard, I didn't think anyone would come back. I was pretty sure I scared them away.

After a few weeks off for the holidays, classes started back up and the ladies looked a little unhappy when I explained we'd be using barbells for most of the class.

I started with a basic warm up and then moved to the good stuff. They did a great job and I had a good time.

To my surprise, all of the ladies came back! They got their bars and benches and went to town. They all did an awesome job.

I'm so excited to challenge them.

My countdown is over!

It's been a long ten weeks but I'm back coaching and ready to see the amazing progress my kiddos have made during the summer months. Today I put on my stretchy pants and got to sweating coaching. It was so nice to see the familiar faces of coworkers and families, and even those florescent lights. It felt great to be back.

I have only seen a handful of my kids so far and I'm amazed at their physical and emotional growth. I swear, some of them are at least six inches taller. What are they eating?

Now that I'm back, I'm eager to find new ways to challenge myself as a coach and facilitator. I'm also excited to incorporate the new sensory information I learned this summer into my lessons.

It's time to review goals and expectations for fall to make sure we're on the right track.

Things to come:
  • The trifecta of senses: tactile, proprioceptive, vestibular and why they're so important
  • The fly or else mentality that doesn't work for you or your child
  • Doing things on your own is great, but here's why a diagnosis is even better

Great books can inspire great ideas-Like a blog

I know I'm reading a good book when I can't put my pen down. I want to take notes and make charts with all the new information. The current book is no exception. I'm going to fill up an entire notebook writing all this great stuff down.

I'm only on the first chapter.

This afternoon, as I was reading (and eating chocolate cake) I was almost frustrated with how good the information was and how I couldn't share it fast enough with certain people. Then it hit me. There's so much information, I could turn it all into blog posts.

Hello, awesome idea.

Get ready for the greatness to flow. This book is stellar and I'm excited.
